Women with sagging breasts often find they need more than just implants. What are their options?  Combining a breast lift with breast implants restores a youthful position while adding volume.

He understands that every cosmetic procedure should be customized to the patient’s body type and preferences, and he takes the time to deliver compassionate, personalized service.

At AW Plastic Surgery, Dr. Wilson and his team can give you the results you’re looking for with this combination procedure.

  • What is a Breast Lift With Implants?

A breast lift with implants is a combination of two complementary cosmetic procedures. Together, they enhance the breast size and shape and reverse the effects of aging to create a fuller and more youthful appearance to the breasts. The medical term for these procedures is mastopexy with breast augmentation or breast augmentation mastopexy.

By itself, breast lift surgery improves the shape and position of the breasts without making them larger. It involves removing excess skin to pull the breasts up and adjust their form. It can make the breasts look rounder and fuller with a more youthful projection but with no added volume. You can learn more about this procedure and the surgical techniques used on AW Plastic Surgery’s Breast Lift page.

Breast implants (or breast augmentation surgery), on their own, add volume to the breasts and enhance their shape. They can be used to restore breast volume that has been lost due to childbearing and breastfeeding, menopause, or weight loss. They can also be used to augment small breasts.

Many plastic surgeons, including Dr. Wilson, use Sientra Gel Silicone breast implants, a biocompatible material that closely mimics the look and feel of natural breast tissue. A “gummy bear” breast implant, is filled with a firmer form of silicone that maintains its shape. We use silicone implants over saline implants as they tend to offer better results. You can learn more about implants on AW Plastic Surgery’s Breast Augmentation page.

The combined augmentation mastopexy procedure can often be more effective in creating a look of full, round, and youthful breasts. It not only lifts a sagging breast but also adds volume and shape as well.

  • Who is a Good Candidate for a Breast Lift With Implants?

The breast lift with implant augmentation procedure is ideal for women who want to restore the firmness and round shape of their breasts and enhance their volume. You are likely to be a good candidate for a breast lift with implants if you have:

      • sagging breasts (breast ptosis), with nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease

      • breasts that are flattened or elongated

      • skin that has stretched because of aging or weight loss

    AND

      • lost volume in your breasts

      • breasts that you consider to be too small

The combined procedures can also be the answer for women who have asymmetrical breasts.

To be a good candidate for the combined procedures, you should also be in good health, close to your ideal weight, and a nonsmoker. You can disclose all this information when you provide Dr. Wilson with your medical history.

Cosmetic breast surgery is best done after you’re finished having children, as pregnancy and breastfeeding can change the size and shape of your breasts and cause the skin to stretch. If you do wish to have more children after your procedure, bring that up in your initial consultation with Dr. Wilson. If possible, he will personalize your

  • The Breast Lift with Implants Procedure

A breast lift with implants procedure is done under general anesthesia. The breast will be reshaped, and the nipple-areola complex position will be adjusted with artfully placed incisions and the selective removal of skin. Implants are then placed either above or below the pectoral muscle. Fine stitches are used to close the incisions to minimize visible scarring.

The procedure usually takes between two and four hours. You will be groggy from the anesthesia, so you will need to arrange for a friend or family member to bring you home.

More details on the two procedures can be found on the Breast Lift and Breast Augmentation pages.

  • Recovery

After your combined breast lift and breast augmentation, you will need a full week of downtime— possibly two weeks, depending on the breast lift procedure — and should arrange to have help with ordinary household tasks. You will need to avoid reaching for things and lifting anything heavier than five pounds. Sleeping upright, propped on pillows, can help reduce swelling. Dr. Wilson will provide pain medication and supportive garments to ease any discomfort.

Most patients can return to office-type work after a week. If your work involves lifting or other physical activity, you may need to take more time off.

After four to six weeks, you will be able to resume more strenuous activities, including heavy lifting and exercise. Dr. Wilson will provide you with detailed recovery instructions to ensure proper healing and to keep scar tissue at a minimum. He will also provide a plan for follow-up care as part of his consultations before and after the procedure

  • Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Lift with Implants

What is a breast lift with implants, and how does it differ from each procedure done separately in Portsmouth?

A breast lift with implants (augmentation-mastopexy) at AW Plastic Surgery in Portsmouth is a comprehensive procedure that addresses both breast sagging and volume deficiency simultaneously. While a breast lift alone repositions existing breast tissue and removes excess skin to create a perkier contour, it doesnt add volume. Breast augmentation alone adds volume through implants but cant correct significant sagging. The combined procedure provides the dual benefit of increasing breast size while also improving position and shape. This is particularly beneficial for Portsmouth patients who have experienced volume loss and sagging after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or significant weight fluctuations. During this procedure, our New Hampshire surgeons both lift the breast tissue to a more youthful position and insert appropriately sized implants to restore or enhance volume, resulting in breasts that are both fuller and more youthfully positioned.

Is it safe to undergo a breast lift and implant surgery at the same time in New Hampshire?

Yes, combining breast lift and implant procedures is both safe and common at AW Plastic Surgery in Portsmouth when performed by our experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. This combination approach is actually quite standard for appropriate candidates and doesnt represent too much surgery on the breast at once. The combined procedure offers several advantages for Portsmouth patients, including a single recovery period, reduced overall cost compared to separate surgeries, and cohesive aesthetic results. Our surgical team carefully plans these procedures to minimize tissue trauma and optimize blood supply to ensure safe healing. For some New Hampshire patients with significant ptosis (sagging) or complex anatomical considerations, our surgeons might recommend staging the procedures for safety and optimal results. During your Portsmouth consultation, well evaluate your specific situation to determine whether a combined or staged approach would be most appropriate for your breast enhancement goals.

What kind of results can I expect from a breast lift with implants in Portsmouth, NH?

A breast lift with implants at AW Plastic Surgery in Portsmouth delivers comprehensive breast enhancement with dramatic, long-lasting results. This combined procedure addresses multiple concerns simultaneously, creating breasts that are not only larger but also shapelier and more youthfully positioned. Portsmouth patients can expect a fuller upper breast contour (which implants alone provide), elimination of sagging (which a lift achieves), and improved nipple position. The procedure also often results in a more proportionate overall silhouette that better balances your bodys natural curves. The specific outcome depends on your starting anatomy, implant choices, and degree of lifting required, but most New Hampshire patients report high satisfaction with their transformed appearance. During your consultation, our Portsmouth surgeons can show you before-and-after photos of previous patients with similar body types to give you a realistic preview of potential results for your combined breast lift with implants.

How long is the recovery period for a combined breast lift with implants in New Hampshire?

Recovery after a combined breast lift with implants at AW Plastic Surgery in Portsmouth is similar to that of either procedure individually, though with a single healing period rather than two separate recoveries. Most Portsmouth patients can return to desk jobs after approximately one week, though youll need to wear a supportive surgical bra during the initial healing phase. Light activities can be resumed gradually, but strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for about three weeks to allow proper healing. Some temporary swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal and typically peak within the first few days. While initial recovery occurs within weeks, the final results of your New Hampshire breast lift with implants continue to develop as swelling resolves and implants settle, a process that takes approximately three months. Our Portsmouth surgical team provides comprehensive aftercare instructions and regular follow-up appointments to ensure optimal healing throughout your recovery.

How do I know if I need both a breast lift and implants in Portsmouth?

Determining whether you need both a breast lift and implants at AW Plastic Surgery in Portsmouth depends on your specific concerns and aesthetic goals. You might benefit from this combined approach if you have noticeable breast sagging (nipples pointing downward or positioned below the breast crease) along with inadequate breast volume. This combination is particularly common among Portsmouth women who have experienced pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or aging, which often result in both volume loss and skin laxity. During your consultation, our New Hampshire plastic surgeons will perform a thorough evaluation, discussing your ideal breast appearance and examining factors like skin elasticity, breast tissue volume, and nipple position. If your breasts appear deflated or flat in addition to sagging, the combined procedure likely offers the comprehensive improvement youre seeking. Many Portsmouth patients find that addressing both issues simultaneously provides the most satisfying transformation of their breast appearance.
